The modelling industry is big business, and people through the years have gained success by showing off their assets in this business, whether clothed or unclothed.  Twiggy is one such celebrity who made her name as a model in the 1960’s.  Born in London in 1949, Twiggy who was born Lesley Hornby was given the title, by the Daily Express of ‘The face of 1966’.  At around the same time, and aged around 16 years old, Twiggy was known as the first supermodel ever, she became the face of the 1960’s and went on to launch a successful TV and film career.  She has never been out of the lime light and since 2005 has been at the forefront of a marketing campaign launched by Marks and Spencers.  She oozes style and for a woman of 60 is an inspiration to all to make something out of life, and proves that you are never too old to continue doing what you enjoy.  Back in the 1960’s teeth weren’t a problem in the modelling industry, and although a good set of teeth was always a good thing, the technology had not yet been produced to enable people to have the perfect of smiles.

Back in 1988 when Kate Moss – aged 14, was discovered by the founder of Storm, Sarah Doukas, perfect teeth were not an issue.  Her quirky appearance was one of the things which made Kate Moss appealing, and although she didn’t have the perfect appearance or even the perfect teeth at the time, it never stopped the public liking her and voting for her as the worlds sexiest woman.

Since this time other models have come out of the woodwork, many of them making a successful career out of being photographed, but the pressure now to look good is possibly more apparent than ever, and many models have opted for procedures such as tooth bleaching (Zähne bleichen).  Tooth bleaching allows a person to keep their usual set of teeth, but enhancing them with a bleaching procedure to make them white.

Many celebrities have opted for tooth whitening, and it is rumoured that many others such as Cheryl Cole, Cher, Michael Jackson, Katie Price and Tom Cruise have all had some form of dentistry work done over the last 10 years.
